One More Trip For The Endeavour

The NASA Space Shuttle Endeavour has been through quite a journey! It had a 20-year-long career in space and just a couple of weeks ago (September 21, 2012 to be exact), it landed in Los Angeles after a cross-country retirement tour. Now, the Endeavour is preparing for the last leg of its journey to its new home at the California Science Center — a 12-mile long journey through the busy streets of Los Angeles, California.

You might be asking yourself, “How can a space shuttle travel through the streets of Los Angeles?” A team composed of the California Science Center, the cities of Los Angeles and Inglewood, and logistical and engineering experts came together to decide the best route that the Endeavour could take from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) to its final destination at the California Science Center.

This team developed a state-of-the-art way to help the Endeavour maneuver the streets, trees, lights, and utility poles through the city called the Endeavour Transportation System. The aim of this system is to move the Endeavour to the California Science Center in one piece.

According to the Science Center, removing the wings or the tail of the shuttle would severely damage the protective tiles that are all over it, and there is no safe way of reattaching pieces to the shuttle if they were disassembled. Although it would be much easier to break the shuttle apart for transportation because it is 78 feet wide (from one wing tip to the other) and 58 feet tall, we would not want to lose any part of this special space shuttle!

As mentioned in the last post about the Endeavour, this shuttle is making history because it will be the “first, land and only time a space shuttle will travel through urban, public city streets” (California Science Center). The Endeavour will begin preparations for its 12-mile-long trek through Los Angeles on Friday, October 12, and then begin its journey on the morning of Saturday, October 13 to end up at the California Science Center that same evening.

The Space Shuttle Endeavour’s journey is almost at an end. The move is happening this Saturday, so tell us what you think about the Endeavour, or even about something you love about space. After all, Math Blaster is a game that trains you not only in your math skills, but also equips you to join the Intergalactic Space Patrol to help defend the galaxy!

Have You Seen Madagascar in JumpStart, Yet?

In case you missed it, Blasters, here is some breaking news for you: DreamWorks’ Madagascar has moved in to the JumpStart World! Our friend Frankie over at JumpStart.com has been working very hard to bring our favorite animal pals from the film, Madagascar, right to us. Alex, Marty, Melman, Gloria, and the secretive Penguins have all landed at the Central Park Zoo in MainStreet, and they are waiting for all of you Blasters to go and check it out.

As you explore the new Madagascar land in JumpStart.com, you can do so many different activities. You can turn your fellow, unsuspecting Jumpeez into animal creatures using Kowalski the Penguin’s Transmorpher invention. There is even a whole European Habitat that you can explore, and you can venture through Venice and learn about its history and different facts about art.

As you explore, you can also collect the unique ‘Zooveniers’ you will need in order to use Kowalski’s Transmorpher. What is great is that the learning does not stop at just the art history facts! You can learn more about the different animals in the zoo, and you can even challenge yourself with cool puzzles.

Madagascar Is Coming To JumpStart!

Hey Blasters, some exciting news has arrived! Our friends over at JumpStart have been excitedly anticipating a new addition to the JumpStart.com world, and it is here at last! There are tons of new things for you to do in JumpStart’s Central Park Zoo, with everything from challenging slide puzzles to interacting with Marty, Melman, Alex, Gloria, and the mischevious Penguins!

The Penguins even have their own Headquarters where you can find activities like Kowalski’s Transmorpher. It is a lot like turning your friend into Monster Morphs in Math Blaster, except you have the chance to turn your friends into awesome animal creatures.

Even before you get started with the Transmorpher, you have to travel to the new European Habitat to collect ‘Zoovenirs’! You can experience amazing all sorts of European sites, including the streets and canals of Venice. All of the new Madagascar™-themed games in this European area will be wildly fun, with everything from playing hide and seek with Mort to helping Rico with some explosively fun finds. You can even take a train through the European countryside and “Photo-bomb” a few traveling tourists.

All of these new activities are so much fun, but we cannot forget about the fun you can have while you learn. As you explore the different parts of the Madagascar™ land, you will probably notice that there are a number of interesting factoids that will expand your knowledge about Italian art and history, as well as about the various animal species living in the game.

So Blasters, have you seen the JumpStart shuttle port in the MathAcademy section of Math Blaster?

Head on over to this Shuttle area and you can fly to the world of JumpStart to explore the new and exciting Madagascar™ land. We cannot wait to hear about what you have to say about this latest addition to the JumpStart World. What do you think about the arrival of Madagascar™ to JumpStart?
